When my brother Andrew was born, my parents were informed he would need a kidney transplant early in life. When he was just 10 years old, my uncle Tom selflessly donated a kidney to Andrew, giving him a second chance at life. This summer, we celebrate 15 years of healthy post-transplant living for both Andrew and Tom!

In honor of this amazing milestone, my family is taking part in the Ronald McDonald House Walk on August 17th. The event supports the Ronald McDonald House and all funds raised go towards providing complimentary lodging, meals, schooling, and family-focused programming to reduce stress and keep families together during a child’s medical crisis.

During transplant recovery, my family was fortunate enough to spend a week in one of the Ronald McDonald Houses. Everything we needed was provided, free of charge, by caring staff and volunteers. It allowed my parents to focus their time and energy on Andrew’s needs.
